Heritage K-8 Charter SchoolHeritage Notes Thank you Parents and the Parent Advisory Board: We’ve added several new nerf balls, two wall-mounted basketball hoops, ribbon wands, and soon-to-be-installed ball trees because of your support of the PAB’s lunch programs and Otter Pop sales. Please bring in any you would like to donate and leave them in the front office for Miss Ackerman. HK8 Open House: Stop by your students’ classrooms on Thursday, November 19, from 5 to 7:30p.m. to see and appreciate samples of their excellent work. 2nd Annual Heritage Holiday Gift Faire: Shop for the holidays with over 20 crafters and vendors on Thursday, November 19, from 5 to 7:30p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. Scholastic Book Fair: Visit the Library on November 19 at the HK8 Open House and November 16-20 at lunch and after school for Destination Book Fair: Read Around the World. Get a jump on holiday shopping and support our school. Copier Needed: The Library is in need of a copier for students doing research. If you have one, please contact Jami Baar at jbaar@echs.org. Cookies & Milk: The 8th grade class is selling cookies and milk after school for $1.00 to raise money for their science camp. Campbell Soup Labels: We’ve collected 1430 points so far but need 2500 before December 31.Check your cupboards now for Campbell Soup Labels! If we turn in 2500 points between October 21 and December, 31, 2009, Campbell’s will give us an additional 2500 Bonus points for classroom and playground equipment. Homefront San Diego: The goal is to help needy families of active duty military personnel during the holidays by providing the essentials for complete meals. Through November 20, Heritage will collect the following donations by grade level: K-2: boxed potatoes and canned gravy; 3-5: boxed stuffing, canned cranberries, and marshmallows; 6-8: canned veggies - corn, green beans, and yams; Faculty: donations to purchase gift certificates for turkeys. Everyone A Reader: You can help a student become a life-long reader. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to read with students who are not reading at their grade level or need extra support. Our reading tutors will receive a three-hour training and then will come to school for one hour per week during the school day to read with their assigned students. Everyone A Reader is a program designed by the San Diego County Office of Education and is a highly successful and positive way of supporting children in the process of learning to read. Heritage Yearbook: 2009/2010’s The Roar is on sale now! It’s only $17 if you order before November 24. Pick up an order form in the front office or order online at www.heritageyearbook.com. Homework Stars: This week’s "Homework Stars" are Sidney Briski in Mrs. Cook’s 3rd grade class and from Miss Lavage’s 1st grade class, Ashley Moreno, Sydney Vargas, and Ajay Vienna. They each get to pick a book of their choice from the "Homework Star" bookcase. Students who complete all homework assignments for the entire week are entered into a weekly drawing. Fresh and Easy: For every $20 spent at our local Fresh and Easy Store, between September 15, 2009 and December 31, 2009, our school will receive a $1 cash donation. Just turn in your receipts (of $20 or more) to the front office. The more you spend, the more money you can raise for our school. Coming Events:
