Core Virtue:
“Humility makes great men twice honorable.”
Benjamin Franklin

STAR Testing:
STAR Testing (Grades 2-8 only) began on Monday, April 7th and will continue on through April 16th. The STAR test provides valuable information about the academic achievements of our students. It is important, therefore, that students do their best on those tests. On testing days, please make sure your student attends school, gets a good night’s rest, and has a healthy breakfast.

Re-Enrollment Packets:
Re-enrollment packets were mailed home early this week. If you did not receive your packet by mail, please contact the office immediately. All registration packets are due in the school office by Wednesday, April 16th, 2008. If you are not going to re-enroll for next year, please turn in the Non-Returning form by April 16th. If we do not receive your completed packet by April 16th, 2008, we assume that your student(s) will not be returning for the 2008/2009 school year and we will not enroll them.

Otter Pops:
It is Otter Pop time again! Otter Pops will be available for purchase after school for 25 cents each. If you would like to donate Otter Pops, please bring boxes to the front office.

Cartridges for Kids:
As we celebrate Earth Day in April, we will be having a recycling contest. The class that collects the most qualifying items will win a $50.00 check. The contest began on April 1st and will end on April 30th. Qualifying recycling items are Videos Games w/case, empty inkjet or laser cartridges, used cell phones, digital cameras, laptops including power cords, PDAs/Palm Pilots, ipods, and DVD Movies including original packaging. Currently Ms. Rochon’s class is in the lead.

Yearbooks:
Heritage K-8 Yearbooks will be sold until April 18, 2008. Order forms in the office. Cost $15.

Family Fun Night:
Family Fun Night is still in need of volunteers. If you can help please contact your
student’s room mom, or you may contact Shannan Preciado at (760) 443-5054.

Poetry Festival:
April is National Poetry Month and the Heritage K-8 4th Annual Poetry Festival is coming soon!! Please set aside the following dates. On Wednesday, April 23rd our 2nd and 3rd graders will perform at 6:30 p.m. in the Heritage Multipurpose Room. The very next day, on April 24th, it will be the 4th and 5th graders turn (at 6:30 p.m. also). Come one, come all, a great time is in store for everyone.

New Student Orientation:
Parents, if you have a sibling student on the lottery wait list for the 2008-2009 school year, you must attend one of the two upcoming mandatory Parent Orientations. The meetings are scheduled for Thursday, April 17th and Tuesday, April 22nd at 6:30 p.m. in the evening in the Heritage Multipurpose Room. Only one parent is required to attend. Even if you have students already enrolled in the school and are trying to get a sibling into the school, one parent must attend the meeting in order to remain on the waiting list. Any questions, please call Vicky Keyser (760)737-3111 Ext. 5212
