Heritage K-8 Charter School
Core Virtue:
“When pride comes, then disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
STAR Testing:
STAR Testing (Grades 2-8 only) is scheduled to begin on Monday, April
7th and run through April 16th. The STAR test provides valuable information
about the academic achievements of our students. It is important, therefore,
that students do their best on those tests. On testing days, please make
sure your student attends school, gets a good night’s rest, and
has a healthy breakfast.
Cartridges for Kids:
As we celebrate Earth Day in April, we will be having a recycling contest.
The class that collects the most qualifying items will win a $50.00 check.
The contest began on April 1st and will end on April 30th. Qualifying
recycling items are Videos Games w/case, empty inkjet or laser cartridges,
used cell phones, digital cameras, laptops including power cords, PDAs/Palm
Pilots, ipods, and DVD Movies including original packaging.
Heritage K-8 Auction and Dinner Rescheduled:
The Heritage K-8 Auction and Dinner has been cancelled for April 4th.
The Auction will now take place during Family Fun Night on the evening
of May 2nd.
Class baskets, a Sony laptop, and other great items will be up for auction.
If your family would like to donate vacation rentals, timeshares, or other
business services, it’s not too late.

Yearbooks:
Heritage K-8 Yearbooks will be sold until April 18, 2008. Order forms
in the office. Cost $15.
Family Fun Night:
Family Fun Night is still in need of volunteers. If you can help please
contact your student’s room mom, or you may contact Shannan Preciado
at (760) 443-5054.
Congratulations:
The American Legion of Escondido held a patriotic essay contest. The theme
of the contest was “Why I am Thankful to Live in America”.
We are please to announce several of our students were winners. Congratulations
goes to the following 4th grade students in Mr. Robertson’s class:
1st place ($25) - Marina Navarro Honorable Mention ($5) - Victoria Grabowski
2nd place ($15) - Cole Parker Honorable Mention ($5) - Christina Oliveira
3rd place ($10) - Daniel Coe
Congratulations goes to the following 5th grade students in Ms. McKissick’s
class:

Poetry Festival:
April is National Poetry Month and the Heritage K-8 4th Annual Poetry
Festival is coming soon!! Please set aside the following dates. On Wednesday,
April 23rd our 2nd and 3rd graders will perform at 6:30 p.m. in the Heritage
Multipurpose Room. The very next day, on April 24th, it will be the 4th
and 5th graders turn (at 6:30 p.m. also). Come one, come all, a great
time is in store for everyone.
New Student Orientation:
Parents, if you have a sibling student on the lottery wait list for the
2008-2009 school year, you must attend one of the two upcoming mandatory
Parent Orientations. The meetings are scheduled for Thursday, April 17th
and Tuesday, April 22nd at 6:30 p.m. in the evening in the Heritage Multipurpose
Room. Only one parent is required to attend. Even if you have students
already enrolled in the school and are trying to get a sibling into the
school, one parent must attend the meeting in order to remain on the waiting

The Pipers Play:
On April 12, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. The Piper, Drums and Dancers of the Cameron
Highlanders, The Escondido Charter High School Choir and the Heritage
K-8 Charter School Piano Club will be performing at the American Spirit
Theater located at Escondido Charter High School. The cost of admission
is $10.00.
